Egypt’s most high-profile dissident, former UN nuclear chief Mohamed ElBaradei, has taken his reformist campaign to the street with a whirlwind of encounters with Muslim worshippers, Christian activists and film stars.
ElBaradei also used his Internet page on the social networking group Facebook to urge Egyptians to join his newly formed National Association for Change, which seeks constitutional amendments and free elections.
Six of the winning candidates in Iraq’s elections should be disqualified because of alleged ties to the former Baath government, a vetting panel says.
If upheld, the move could alter the election result, to which State of Law coalition leader, Nouri Maliki, is already mounting a legal challenge.
The leader of Lebanon’s Druze community, Walid Jumblatt, has met with Syria’s president – signalling a thaw in relations between former foes.
In the past, Mr Jumblatt has accused Damascus of assassinating his father, and said President Bashar al-Assad was a “savage, a liar and a criminal”.
The meeting was welcomed by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which has close ties to Syria.
Mr Jumblatt has said his criticism of Mr Assad was “inappropriate”.

Two suicide bombers targeted authorities in southern Russia on Wednesday, killing 12 people, including nine police officers. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said the blasts may have been organized by the same militants who attacked the Moscow subway.
The attacks Wednesday came after the powerful former president had vowed to “drag out of the sewer” the terrorists who plotted Monday’s twin subway bombings, which killed 39 people and injured scores of commuters during rush hour.
The US and France have vowed to work together to push for new UN sanctions over Iran’s nuclear programme.
After talks in Washington with French leader Nicolas Sarkozy, US President Barack Obama said he hoped to have the sanctions in place “within weeks”.
Mr Sarkozy promised “all necessary efforts to make sure Europe as a whole engaged in the sanctions regime”.
The UK government must ensure that military equipment sold to Israel is not used in the occupied territories, MPs have said.
Ministers must learn “broader lessons” about ensuring the ban on the trade in such products for use in Gaza and the West Bank is enforced, a report adds.
The MPs said it was “regrettable” that UK arms sold to Israel were “almost certainly” used in Gaza in 2008.

اعتذر الإعلامي أحمد شوبير للمستشار مرتضى منصور رئيس نادي الزمالك الأسبق، في مداخلة هاتفية على الهواء مباشرة نقلتها قناة “أزهري” الفضائية، بمبادرة من الشيخ خالد الجندي عبر برنامجه “المجلس”.
وكانت الأزمة بين شوبير ومرتضى قد تصاعدت حدتها في الآونة الأخيرة، وحصل منصور على حكم قضائي بوقف بث برامج شوبير على قناة الحياة الفضائية، مما دفعها إلى فسخ تعاقدها مع حارس مرمى منتخب مصر والأهلي سابقًا.

قبل ان يشكل الرئيس أوباما وزارته الجديدة أعلن عن تعيين مستشاره العلمي, وتلقي خطابا من عدد من كبار العلماء يطلبون إليه ان يعين مستشارا علميا لكل وزير.. ثم تلقي خطابا من عدد من العلماء ان يضاعف ميزانية البحث العلمي وان ترفع الدولة يدها عن أبحاث الفضاء, فقد تدخل الكونجرس اكثر من مرة وأشهر هذه المرات وأفدحها عندما اعترض علي ميزانية الرحلات الفضائية, فكانت النتيجة ان تفوق الروس علي أمريكا في اطلاق أول وثاني وثالث سفينة فضاء.
فأمريكا عندما احتلت ألمانيا استولت علي كل علماء الصواريخ الألمان وعلي رأسهم فون براون مخترع الصاروخ ق2 الذي ضربوا به لندن.
فلما انطلق القمر الروسي والقمر الذي يحمل الكلبة لايكا والقمر الذي يحمل جاجارين أول انسان يدور حول الأرض, كل ذلك كان زلزالا للهيئات العلمية في أمريكا وكان درسا قاسيا.. والعلماء بعثوا للرئيس أوباما يذكرونه بهذه الفضيحة.
ولم يخيب الرئيس أوباما آمال كبار العلماء فضاعف ميزانية البحث العلمي وغرس المستشارين من العلماء في كل مكان, وان لم تكن هذه كل أسباب النجاح فهي أهمها ـ ونشوف ونتعلم!
هل اذكر الناس بكتاب( أمة في خطر لقد زهق الناس من الاسم ومن حكايته ومن المقارنة الظالمة بيننا وبينهم, ولذلك هم تعلموا وتقدموا, ولم يزهقوا ولم يقولوا: يعني هو ده اللي كان ناقص.. نحن ينقصنا الكثير, ولذلك تقدموا ونحن محلك سر!
