The UN’s humanitarian chief has told the BBC the situation in Gaza after a three-week Israeli offensive against Hamas was worse than he anticipated.

Sir John Holmes, who visited Gaza on Thursday, said he was shocked by “the systematic nature of the destruction”.

He said that the territory’s economic activity had been set back by years.

UN workers have been given access to Gaza. On Friday, Israel lifted a ban on international aid agencies entering the Palestinian territory.

The ban had been in place since early November when tensions mounted between Israel and Hamas.

Hamas officials based in Gaza have returned to Egypt for more talks with Egyptian mediators on the Gaza truce.
They say the discussions will focus on a “working paper” to consolidate the cease-fire with Israel following the three-week offensive. They spoke after crossing from the coastal strip on Friday.

One official said the talks — slated for Sunday — will also address the fate of Israeli soldier, Sgt. Gilad Schalit. He was captured by the militants in June 2006.

The outgoing US ambassador to Iraq has warned that a hasty withdrawal of US troops from the country would create “severe risks”.

Ryan Crocker said al-Qaeda remained a threat in Iraq and that an overly rapid departure would have a “chilling effect” on Iraqis.

The US currently has more than 140,000 troops in Iraq.

US President Barack Obama called during his election campaign for a withdrawal of combat troops within 16 months.

Breaking forcefully with Bush anti-terror policies, President Barack Obama ordered major changes Thursday that he said would halt the torture of suspects, close down the Guantanamo detention center, ban secret CIA prisons overseas and fight terrorism “in a manner that is consistent with our values and our ideals.”

“We intend to win this fight. We’re going to win it on our terms,” Obama declared, turning U.S. policy abruptly on just his second full day in office. He also put a fresh emphasis on diplomacy, naming veteran troubleshooters for Middle East hotspots.

Eight members of the same Sunni family have been killed in an attack on their home, police in Iraq say.

The dead included six women and, according to one report, a child.

The incident, late on Thursday night, happened in a village near the town of Balad Ruz, north of Baghdad, in the province of Diyala.

The area has seen some of the worst recent violence with security forces and tribal militiamen fighting Sunni insurgents reportedly tied to al-Qaeda.

اتهمت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية في تقريرا لها مصر بأنها محطة للاتجار بالنساء من دول أوروبا الشرقية والمتجهات إلى اسرائيل للعمل في الدعارة ، كما اتهم التقرير بعض الدول العربية بالشيء نفسه ، بالإضافة إلي سوء معاملة الأطفال والمهاجرين والمغتربين.

وقال تقرير وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية لعام 2008 عن ظاهرة الاتجار فى البشر: مصر دولة ترانزيت لدول أوروبا الشرقية وروسيا وإسرائيل بغرض الاتجار الجنسى، كما أنها بلد مصدر لتجارة الأطفال، وبها أكثر من مليون طفل شارع يتم الاتجار بهم فى أعمال الدعارة، كما تصدر الأطفال والنساء الذين يستغلون فى أعمال قسرية وإباحية، فى دول عديدة من بينها الكويت وقطر.

أعرب إبراهيم سعيد لاعب النادي الاسماعيلي عن اندهاشه من قرار ناديه بتحميله قيمة صفقة انتقاله له مشيرا إلي انه سيكون أول لاعب كرة قدم في التاريخ يشتري نفسه من نادية.

وقال سعيد في اتصال هاتفي بـYallakora.com ” لقد أصبحت أول لاعب في تاريخ كرة القدم يشتري نفسه بنفسه. ومن حقي الآن ان ادخل موسوعة جينيس للأرقام القياسية”.

وقال سعيد ” بدأت المشكلة عندما وجدت قرارا من مجلس إدارة النادي بخصم مبلغ 200 ألف دولار من مستحقاتي وهي قيمة انتقالي للفريق في بداية الموسم”.

نور الشريف صرح فى حفل الافتتاح انه وعلى الرغم من انه كان من المقرر ان يقدم عملين دراميين هذا العام لكن قضية الصراع العربي الإسرائيلي الذى يناقشه المسلسل و الحرب على غزة التى هى قضية الساعة التى تعيشها الشعوب العربية الآن كانت السبب وراء اختياره لمسلسل “متخافوش” لأن يكون هو مسلسله الوحيد لرمضان المقبل خصوصا و ان الاعلام يلعب دورا كبيرا فى هذا القضية.
