Moroccan police said Friday they had dismantled a “terrorist network” linked to Al-Qaeda and arrested 15 suspects who were planning attacks.

Moroccan news agency MAP quoted police as saying members of a group called Fath Al Andalous were found in possession of chemicals and electronics “used in the making of explosives”.

“Members of this structure … were planning attacks in Morocco and had established operational links with foreign extremists of the Al-Qaeda organisation,” MAP quoted police as saying.

Police did not say where the suspects were arrested but said the network was present in several Moroccan cities.

The Hezbollah political and militant group has described the shooting down of an army helicopter in south Lebanon as “tragic and painful”.

But the Shia movement has not confirmed local media reports that the gunmen were its members. The attackers’ motive remains unclear.

One of the pilots was killed and the helicopter was forced to crash-land.

The attack on the helicopter took place in an area of south Lebanon where Hezbollah is known to have a presence.

Scottish police had information that might have changed the outcome of the Lockerbie bombing trial, a BBC TV programme has learned.

The information could have affected the credibility of key evidence, but was not passed to the defence team.

Libyan national Abdelbaset ali Mohmed al-Megrahi is serving life for killing 270 people in the 1988 bombing.

A prosecution witness had seen a picture linking al-Megrahi to the bombing before he identified him.

Georgia has broken off diplomatic ties with Moscow and ordered Russian diplomats to leave Tbilisi, Deputy Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze told AFP on Friday.

“Georgia is cutting diplomatic ties with the Russian Federation,” he said. “In such situations, Russian diplomats will have to leave Georgia.”

“Only consular relations will be maintained,” he added.

Speaking to reporters in Stockholm, Foreign Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili said it “would be very awkward to have a diplomatic relationship… with Russia , when Russia will be setting up diplomatic relations with South Ossetia and Abkhazia.”

Lebanon has indicted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi over the disappearance of a prominent Shia Muslim cleric during a visit to Libya 30 years ago.

It is widely believed in Lebanon that Sheikh Moussa Sadr, who was revered locally, was kidnapped and killed on the orders of senior Libyan officials.

Twenty-one members of Egypt’s main opposition Muslim Brotherhood were arrested on Thursday in the Nile Delta for holding an illegal meeting at a former MP’s home, a security official said.

“The 21 men were detained in Sharqiya province at the home of a former MP and group leader,” the official said, requesting anonymity.

They are accused of holding an illegal meeting and spreading the Brotherhood’s ideology, having been found in possession of Brotherhood tracts.

أعلنت إيران أنها تبحث تشكيل قيادة مستقلة لتطوير قدراتها الصاروخية‏,‏ وهددت بتوجيه صواريخها القادرة علي تدمير اسرائيل محذرة في الوقت نفسه من ان الحلفاء الشيعة لإيران في الخارج يمكنهم الرد علي أي عدوان إسرائيلي يستهدف الجمهورية الاسلامية‏.‏

واعلن القائد العام للحرس الثوري اللواء محمد علي جعفري انه في إطار تعزيز القدرة القتالية تم تشكيل‏31‏ فيلقا تابعا لقوات الحرس الثوري بمختلف المحافظات الايرانية لمواجهة أي عدوان خارجي‏.‏
