EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana has met Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili hours before reporting to the UN on the Iranian nuclear issue.
Mr Jalili said they had had “positive negotiations”, but Mr Solana said he was disappointed with the talks.

Correspondents say the talks may determine whether the US and its allies press for more sanctions on Iran.

The UN has demanded Iran suspend uranium enrichment, but Tehran insists its programme is peaceful.

Australia’s prime minister-elect says the country’s 550 combat troops will leave Iraq by the middle of 2008.
Kevin Rudd, who beat incumbent John Howard in last weekend’s election, had previously promised a gradual withdrawal of Australian troops.

He made the pledge in an Australian radio interview, but said there had been no discussions yet with the US.

Under Mr Howard Australia was a keen supporter of the US-led invasion and made an early troop commitment.

اعلن رئيس الوزراء التركي رجب طيب أردوغان انه منح للجيش التركي منذ يومين الضوء الاخضر للتوغل في شمال العراق لضرب متمردي حزب العمال الكردستاني.

وقال أردوغان في تصريحات للصحفيين بأنقرة إن الرئيس التركي عبد الله جول وافق على القرار الذي اتخذته الحكومة التركية في اجتماعها الاربعاء الماضي.

وبدا من خلال هذا التصريح المفاجئ ان ضغوط واشنطن خلال الأسابيع الماضية فشلت في أقناع انقرة بالتخلي عن الخيار العسكري ضد المقاتلين الأكراد في شمال العراق.

Pakistan’s Pervez Musharraf launched his civilian presidency Friday facing an opposition split over his promise to lift emergency rule and arguing about whether to boycott upcoming elections.

Two days after bowing to international pressure and stepping down from the army, Musharraf was to chair his first federal cabinet meeting as a civilian president later in the day.

In a nationwide television address Thursday evening hours after being sworn in for a second five-year term, Musharraf said he was determined to lift the state of emergency and restore the constitution on December 16.

Iraqi security forces arrested dozens of people, including the son of a leading Sunni Arab politician, in a pre-dawn raid on Friday after a car rigged with explosives was found near the lawmaker’s office.

The incident threatened to increase political tension across Iraq’s sectarian divide at a time when violence has been falling dramatically.

The Shi’ite-led government said Adnan al-Dulaimi, leader of the Accordance Front, the main Sunni Arab bloc, could be stripped of the immunity from prosecution he holds as a member of parliament if he was found to have links to car bombs.

تحاول وزارة الخارجية البريطانية اقناع السلطات السودانية باطلاق سراح المدرسة البريطانية جيليان جيبنز التي حكم عليها بالسجن 15 يوما والترحيل من البلاد بتهمة الاساءة للاسلام.

واجرت الخارجية البريطانية اتصالات طيلة الليل مع الحكومة السودانية في محاولات لإطلاق سراح المدرسة.

وقد أعرب وزير الخارجية البريطاني ديفيد ميليباند عن خيبة امله الشديدة تجاه هذا الحكم، وجدد ميليباند التاكد على براءة المعلمة، وقال إن هناك سوء تفاهم.

A plane operated by a budget airline crashed Friday in mountains in southwest Turkey after apparently veering off course, killing all 57 people on board, officials said.

The fuselage and wings of the MacDonnell Douglas 83, operated by Atlasjet, were torn apart and pieces of metal and bodies, some still in their seats, were scattered across the area, Anatolia news agency reported.

Earth-moving machines had to clear a narrow path up a hillside so that security forces, ambulances and civil defence teams could get to the wreckage, the agency said.

بعد رحلة علاجية استمرت حوالى أسبوعين، عاد الفنان طلعت زكريا إلى القاهرة يوم الخميس في ساعة مبكرة.

نقل طلعت زكريا من على متن طائرة مصر للطيران رحلة رقم 800 على سرير متحرك إلى سيارة إسعاف حتى يتم نقله إلى مستشفى دارالمنى بطريق مصرـ الأسكندرية الصحراوي ، حسبما ذكرت وكالة أنباء الشرق الأوسط.

رافق الفنان أثناء عودته الدكتور كريم مشهور، وكان في استقباله في مطار القاهرة زوجته ومجموعة كبيرة من الفنانين على رأسهم أشرف زكي نقيب الممثلين الذي رافقه داخل سيارة الإسعاف.

ابدي المعتز بالله اينو لاعب النادي الأهلي سعادته البالغة بالمستوي الذي ظهر به أمام الاتحاد السكندري في مباراة الأسبوع الحادي عشر للدوري والتي انتهت بفوز الفريق الأحمر بهدفين نظيفين.

وقال اينو للموقع الرسمي للنادي الأهلي ” مباراة الاتحاد هي بدايتي الحقيقية مع الفريق.واتمني أن استمر علي نفس المستوي في المباريات القادمة.”
