Arab envoys on a landmark visit to Israel presented its leaders with a regional land-for-peace plan on Wednesday and called for a rapid timetable for talks with the Palestinians over statehood.

Israel described the one-day visit by the Jordanian and Egyptian foreign ministers as a “historic” move on the part of the 22-nation Arab League. But it stopped short of embracing their initiative, which offers a comprehensive Arab peace if the Jewish state cedes all occupied land and meets other demands.

ذكرت وكالة أنباء الشرق الأوسط يوم الاربعاء أن السلطات المصرية شددت اجراءات الامن في مطار القاهرة الدولي خوفا من هجمات مثل الهجمات التي تعرضت لها الجزائر وبريطانيا في الآونة الاخيرة.

ومع ذلك لم يذكر مسؤولان كبيران في الشرطة في تصريحات للوكالة ما اذا كانت الاجراءات الامنية المشددة قد جاءت ردا على تهديد أمني محدد.

Taliban kidnappers killed one of its 23 South Koreans hostages and will kill the rest if their demands are not met by 2030 GMT (4.30 pm ET) on Wednesday, a Taliban spokesman said.

The Taliban had complained the Afghan government had failed to release any Taliban prisoners as the kidnappers had demanded and as, according to the rebel spokesman, Korean negotiators had assured them Kabul would do.

وصلت أزمة المياه إلي ذروتها في قري الدقهلية خلال الأيام الأخيرة، وتطور التدافع بين الأهالي العطشانين، علي خزانات المياه، التي أرسلتها إليهم الحكومة، إلي مشاجرات، تحولت في بعض القري إلي اشتباكات بالأيدي والشوم والحجارة.

قال المزارع أحمد إسماعيل، من قرية 49 في بلقاس إن مشاجرة بالشوم والحجارة نشبت بين عائلتي عوض عبدالشافي وأحمد البديوي، علي حافة بحر الدرافيل بسبب التزاحم على جركن مياه.

أعلنت جبهة التوافق العراقية تعليق مشاركتها في الحكومة العراقية، محذرة من أن القرار سيصبح نهائيا في غضون أسبوع إذا لم يلب رئيس الوزراء نوري المالكي مطالبها.

وقالت الكتلة السنية إنها تريد أن تكون مشاركتها أكثر فعالية في الأمور الأمنية، كما طالبت بالمزيد من الاجراءات للحد من نفوذ الميليشيات الشيعية.

يذكر أن زعماء سنة في العراق غالبا ما اتهموا حكومة المالكي بأنها تميّز ضد السنة، غير أن المالكي ينفي ذلك ويصر على أن حكومته ملتزمة بالسعي للتوصل للمصالحة الوطنية بين العراقيين.

Iran has said it would consider holding higher-level talks with the US about Iraq, a day after their ambassadors in Baghdad held a landmark meeting.
Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Iran would consider meeting the US at deputy foreign minister level, if the US suggested it.

The US and Iranian ambassadors to Baghdad met on Tuesday.

It was only the second direct meeting between officials of this level in almost three decades.

At the meeting, both sides blamed each other for the violence in Iraq.

Support for suicide bombings against civilians has fallen sharply across the Muslim world since 2002, a major survey has suggested.
However, 70% of Palestinians interviewed said they believed such attacks were sometimes justifiable.

The Global Opinion Trends survey, by the US-based Pew Research Centre, polled 45,000 people in 47 countries.

It also found widespread optimism in poor countries that the next generation will enjoy better lives.

And it suggested that people viewed the US as the most friendly country in the world and the most feared.

The meeting is being seen as a sign of the normalisation of ties between Libya and the EU following the release.

Terrorists may be conducting “dry runs” at U.S. airports to test security before a possible attack, according to a Transportation Security Administration warning to airport screeners.

In at least four incidents over the past year, security screeners have found items in carry-on luggage — blocks of cheese taped to electrical components, for example — that resembled homemade bombs, according to the TSA’s July 20 memo.
