IAEA confirms Iran prepares for uranium enrichment
The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that Iran has started preparations to resume uranium enrichment, BBC reported.
The findings come in an IAEA classified report made available to the media ahead of an emergency board meeting on Thursday.
According to the report, Tehran hadn’t yet begun enrichment but had started renovation work at its Natanz enrichment facility. “Substantial renovation of the gas handling system is underway at the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant (PFEP) at Natanz,” it said.
Iran had threatened to resume uranium enrichment if its nuclear case was sent to the UN Security Council for possible sanctions.
The new IAEA report comes as the U.S. and members of the UN Security Council reached a shocking accord to refer Iran to the world body.
However it’s not clear whether the UNSC will impose sanctions against Tehran.
