President Bush confronted doubts about his war policy Wednesday, asserting more Iraqi security forces are taking the lead in battle but saying it’s still uncertain when U.S. forces can be withdrawn. “No war has ever been won on a timetable,” according to a new White House strategy document.

Facing criticism and impatience about the conflict, Bush went on the offensive with the release of a 35-page plan titled “Our National Strategy for Victory in Iraq.” The plan says increasing numbers of Iraqi troops have been equipped and trained, a democratic government is being forged, Iraq’s economy is being rebuilt and U.S. military and civilian presence will change as conditions improve.

Egyptian police have detained hundreds of members of the opposition Muslim Brotherhood before the final round of the parliamentary poll, the group says.
A spokesman for the banned Islamist group told Reuters 576 members had been held in the last two days, many in governorates due to vote on Thursday.
The brotherhood said the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) wanted to thwart its election campaign.

بدأت محكمة في لندن النظر في قضية المهندس لبمصري ممدوح حمزة المتهم بالتخطيط لقتل وزير الاسكان المصري محمود سليمان وثلاثة من كبار المسؤولين المصريين هم زكريا عزمي رئيس الديوان الجمهوري المصري، وكمال الشاذلي وزير شؤون مجلس الشعب، وفتحي سرور رئيس مجلس الشعب.

ويقول الاتهام إن حمزة، وهو من كبار المهندسين الاستشاريين وصاحب شركة أعمال واستشارات هندسية، خطط للاستعانة بقاتل مأجور للتخلص من وزير الاسكان المصري الذي يعتقد حمزة أنه حال دون حصوله على عمل.

وقد اتضح فيما بعد أن القاتل المأجور لم يكن سوى شرطي بريطاني سري قام بالابلاغ عنه.

Heavy fighting erupted Wednesday between Israeli occupation forces and Palestinian resistance fighters after the Israeli army raided the northern West Bank town of Nablus, security sources said, according to AFP.

More than 20 Israeli army jeeps entered the Ras Al Ain neighborhood of Nablus where Israeli soldiers surrounded several Palestinian homes and the sound of explosions could be heard, witnesses said

Nine Iraqis have been killed and two wounded by gunmen in an attack on a minibus near Baquba, north of Baghdad, police say.
The farm workers were attacked on their way to work by 10 gunmen who shot at the vehicle and then disappeared.
Correspondents say the authorities are warning of an increase in violence in the run-up to parliamentary elections in just over two weeks.

Two Saudi businesswomen swept to an unprecedented victory in elections to the board of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the first polls in which women stood as candidates in the conservative Muslim kingdom.

Suleiman and fellow female winner Nashwa Taher ran on a list of heavyweight business people and industrialists which clinched the 12 board seats up for grabs, according to results released early Wednesday.

قامت الشرطة البلجيكية بعمليات دهم لعدد من المنازل في بروكسل، وفي مدينة أنتويرب Antwerp الواقعة شمال البلاد في إطار التحقيق بشأن امرأة نفذت هجوماً انتحارياً استهدف دورية أمريكية منذ ثلاثة أسابيع في العاصمة العراقية بغداد.

وأكدت ليفا بيلينز المتحدثة باسم الشرطة البلجيكية أن المرأة نفذت الهجوم في بغداد يوم التاسع من نوفمبر/ تشرين ثاني الحالي.

وهذه هي المرة الأولى التي تنخرط فيها امرأة أوروبية في مثل هذه الأعمال، برغم توفر معلومات عن توجه مسلمين أوروبيين الى العراق للقيام بعمليات مسلحة ضد القوات الأمريكية.

The US has condemned the arrests of 26 gay men during a raid on a party at a hotel in the United Arab Emirates earlier this month.
Washington also warned the UAE that any attempt to administer hormone or psychological treatment would break international law.
Police launched on Tuesday disciplinary proceedings against an officer who published photos taken during the raid, but did not respond to the criticism.
